Is This Thing On #36 - They're heeeeeeeere!
* This is episode #36, for October 31st, 2007.
(Download MP3 - Listen to Streaming audio)
* BOO! Sorry we were in torpor for so long, but we are back and celebrating Halloween!
Topics:
* 30 Days of Night in Theatres
- Beware, not only is this podcast full of spoilers, we trash the movie for about 40 minutes!
* Blood Ties on Lifetime
- Great show in it's second season, based on the novels by Tanya Huff, about a P.I. who works with a vampire to solve cases.
* Moonlight on CBS
- Good new show with potential, about a P.I. who is a vampire and the news reporter who finds out what he is.
* Buffy Between the Lines Podcast
- This podcast had me worried at first. I mean, I have fond memories of Buffy and Angel. I like fan fiction, but some previous works I've read in the Buffyverse before just didn't click with me. Audio drama is SO MUCH BETTER, especially when produced by such a great cast. I was hooked on this from the start, and I'll admit it, I cried a couple times durng episode one. They have our beloved characters down pat, and I'm looking forward to more Sunnydale goodness to come.
* The Metamor City Podcast
- In a nutshell, this podcast is beyond incredible. This is a serialized fiction podcast set in a world of high fantasy and modern tech. The best way I can describe this is to take your favorite D&D magic and monsters setting and project it to the modern day and let technology mature in a world where magic never faded. It has humans working along side vampires, wizards, elves, and demons. Moreover, the host, Chris Lester, has not only crafted a wonderful world, he turns out incredible prose. Going forward, he'll be podcasting a novel he wrote in this setting with an amazing cast from the podosphere. So far, we are treated to vignettes, including one read by the luxurious Leann Mabry of the awesome Tag In The Seam podcast.
* Forever Fifteen by Kimberly Steele at Podiobooks.com
- I just discovered this Podiobook even though it's been on Pobiobooks.com since January. OK, I'm a bit out of touch. But, I'm subscribed now and I like what I've heard so far. Genre-wise I'm considering this in the same league as Stephenie Meyer's series which I absolutely loved.
* Nocturnal by Scott Sigler debuts Halloween Night at stroke of midnight!
- What can I say about this? Scott Sigler is my Shamakath and this book is going to kick major ass!
* Playing for Keeps by Mur Lafferty debuts Nov. 1st!
- What, no vampires in this story? Maybe, we'll just have to listen to find out! Surely plenty of manically evil supervillians -- that works for me! Plus, it's Mighty Mur, so it has to be good.
* Updates on La Bal Masqué Nocturne 2008
- Thanked everyone who made it to LBMN 2007 on Second Life!
- The compilation CD is coming soon.
- Wristbands available now!
* We closed the show by playing "Stigmata" by George Hrab from his album Minutiae. Check out his podcast, his albums, and his new book, George Hrab's Non-Coloring Book, now on sale at Lulu.com!
* Promos:
- Buffy Between the Lines Podcast
- The Metamor City Podcast
- Forever Fifteen by Kimberly Steele at Podiobooks.com.
- Nocturnal by Scott Sigler
- Playing for Keeps by Mur Lafferty
** Finally, we ran REALLY long -- bitching about crappy movies will cause that -- so I didn't get to talk about two amazing albums I recently bought, both of which are perfect for this time of year!
* Winter World by Reliquary
- A very lovely, dark and moving album with powerful orchestration and glorious vocals. Highly recommended!
* Vanish by À Rebours
- Then there's this chap -- I love solo artists who do it all -- who brings a fun flair to his deep gothic tunes. My favorite has to be "The Wicked One", though the whole album has an energy that carries from start to finish. Also highly recommended!
That wraps up another episode of Is This Thing On? Thanks for listening... and staying subscribed!
