Wed, 02/24/2010 - 11:18pm

* This is Episode #56 for Feb 24, 2010.
(Download MP3)

// LILITH'S LOVE
* Episode 6 was a tortured birth, but was finally posted last weekend. It is part one of Chapter 6, and part two will drop soon.
- Part of the delay has been technical difficulties, and this precluded getting an episode of Out Of The Coffin out on time. My apologies and thank you all for your patience.

// NEWS
* AZ Storycasting Meetup & Signing
- I have been confirmed as a guest author and there will be books there for me to sign!
- Saturday March 13th, 6-8pm at Changing Hands Bookstore, Tempe, AZ
- Event cost: FREE! includes sodas and snacks
- Signing + talking + snacking = Good time! RSVP here

// THE BOOM EFFECT
* TheBoomEffect.org is hosting an auction webathon run by Podcasting's Rich Sigfrit, with a plethora of special guests and fun. It will take place live online at 10am EST on Feb. 27th, 2010.

// INTERVIEW
* Gail Carriger is the author of SOULLESS, its sequel, CHANGELESS which debuts March 30, and BLAMELESS which will arrive in September this year also!
- We talked for a good while about her background in archaeology, her "urbane fantasy" novels, podcasts, audio books, and more.
* Points of interest
- Check out my review of SOULLESS on Joss'd for some background
- SOULLESS takes place in 1873.
- SOULLESS recently won a 2010 ALEX Award as an adult book which also appeals to a YA audience.
- No audiobook version yet, but soon we hope.
- Don't forget about the wonderful production of the first chapter done by J.D. Sawyer, Chris Lester, Miss Kalendar, George Chlentzos, and Angela Vernon.
- Gail listens to and highly recommends Adventures in Sci-Fi Publishing, I Should Be Writing, and The Survival Guide to Writing Fantasy podcasts.
- Look for her non-fiction piece in Ann and Jeff Vandermeer's STEAMPUNK RELOADED anthology and her short story in the MAMMOTH BOOK OF PARANORMAL ROMANCE 2.
- Find out more about Ms. Carriger at her website and blog found at www.GailCarriger.com

// FAREWELL
* No music to wrap up. So enjoy the interview and Michelle and I will be back soon with reviews and such in March!

That wraps up this episode of the Out Of The Coffin podcast. Thanks for listening!

Episode #55 - Happy Second Podcast Anniversary!

Sat, 01/16/2010 - 2:27am

* This is Episode #55 for Jan 16, 2010.
(Download MP3)

// REMEMBERING NATALIE / THE BOOM EFFECT
* Before the episode gets started, I want to take a brief moment of your time. On January 5, 2010, Natalie Morris, the wife of Tee Morris, passed away. Tee Morris is well known in the realm of podcasting, being the very first podiobook author. He has been an inspiration to me and many of my fellow podcasters. Tee now has the unenviable job of raising his daughter, lovingly nicknamed "Sonic Boom", on his own. Phillippa Ballantine recently set up a Chip-In account online to raise money for a college trust fund for "Sonic Boom", as well as holding an auction soon, dubbed The Boom Effect, to further contribute to the fund. If you haven't already heard about these efforts I want to point you to the websites. They are RememberNatalie.org and TheBoomEffect.org.

// LILITH'S LOVE
* Author and fan of the show, Emerian Rich, listed LILITH'S LOVE in her list of ten favorite books of 2009! Thanks Emz!
* Should I cross-post LILITH'S LOVE episodes here?
- I dropped #1 here to whet everyone's appetite and share my latest project with you all. But the hope was that folks would then visit the LILITH'S LOVE podcast feed for more. The episodes will soon be on Podiobooks.com, so you'll soon have two places to subscribe.

// NEWS
* AZ Storycasting Meetup & Signing
- Saturday March 13th, 6-8pm at Changing Hands Bookstore, Tempe, AZ
- Event cost: FREE! includes sodas and snacks
- Signing + talking + snacking = Good time! RSVP here

* People's Choice Awards - on CBS Jan 6th
- FAVORITE BREAKOUT MOVIE ACTOR: Taylor Lautner
- FAVORITE ON-SCREEN TEAM: The Twilight Saga
- FAVORITE MOVIE: Twilight
- FAVORITE FRANCHISE: The Twilight Saga
- FAVORITE NEW TV DRAMA: The Vampire Diaries
- FAVORITE TV OBSESSION: True Blood

// BOOKS
* I finished reading SOULLESS by Gail Carriger.
- What a delightful book! 10 out of 10! It is funny, action-packed, romantic, sexy, and full of Victorian vampires, werewolves, and ghosts! Oh my! I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I am eagerly awaiting the sequel! A full review, and hopefully an interview with the author, will follow soon.

// THEATRE
* This winter Great Lakes Theater Festival in Cleveland, Ohio will be presenting a new one-act play, THE DARK SIDE OF TWILIGHT by David Hansen, as its free, outreach touring play.
- It will play in 21 venues across three counties in northern Ohio as part of its community outreach "Surround" programming. THE DARK SIDE OF TWILIGHT is inspired by four pivotal examples of Gothic vampire literature - Polidori's THE VAMPYRE, Stoker's DRACULA, Rice's INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE, and Meyer's TWILIGHT. The performances, free and open to the public, begin in mid-February 2010 and run for about a month.
- David let me know about his play and offered to send a draft of the play my way to read. It is an absolutely wonderful homage to vampire literature. Full of suspense, romance, drama and some laughs, sprinkled with lots of nods to the genre that made me smile. If you are in Ohio, you should definitely check this out.

// PROMOS
* Horror Addicts podcast, hosted by Emerian Rich, author of Night's Knights, a vampire podiobook.
* FETIDUS by James Durham.
* BLOOD WITNESS by Dave Hitt.

// TV
* Review of new BBC TV show DEMONS
- Michelle and I both enjoyed the first episode. It definitely has potential. It certainly has borrowed from a lot of different places, like Buffy and every Dracula derivative you can imagine. But, the idea of the ragtag group using (pseudo)science against the Inhumans is unique vs. the typical religious dogma.
* Vampire Diaries Returns Jan 21, 2010.

Lilith's Love Promo #1

Tue, 12/15/2009 - 10:33pm

Hey everyone, I'm dropping by to deliver the very first promo for the LILITH'S LOVE podiobook. (Download MP3)

It features Donovan in the present giving folks a bit of a tease about what happened back in 1993. You could call it a spoiler, but I hope you are anxious to see how it all unfolds.

The promo is only 60 seconds long. If you have a podcast and would like to play a shorter promo, let me know, and I can whip something up sooner.

Pass it around, far and wide, and maybe share the Out Of The Coffin promos too, if you are feeling very generous.

Thanks, and I'll be back soon!
-Dan

- She likens her October story to "Succubi In The City", and that would have been more than plenty. But there's vamps in the tale as well. Great stuff as always from Pip!

Neil Gaiman talks vampires | EW Q&A [del.icio.us]

Sun, 09/06/2009 - 4:19pm
Neil Gaiman can do no wrong in my eyes. This interview with Entertainment Weekly just cements my view, even if he does suggest that vampires need to disappear again for a while.

Transylmania vs Stan Helsing: Duel of the Dreaded Horror Spoofs | Film Junk [del.icio.us]

Sun, 09/06/2009 - 3:50pm
Oh no, Michelle is gonna kill me. Two new horror/vampire movie spoofs are coming later this year. One is "Stan Helsing" from the "Scary Movie" guys, which is going straight to hell... I mean DVD. The other is "Transylmania" from the "National Lampoon's Dorm Daze" folks, which looks like it is coming to theatres. There were a couple giggle moments in the trailers. Check out the article for the trailer links.
